Firefighters trapped after JMVFC engine crashes while responding to Edgewood collision

JOPPA, MD—Firefighters with the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company were trapped in their engine on Tuesday after crashing while responding to a separate accident.

At just before 12 p.m., JMVFC was alerted to a motor vehicle collision in the 1000-block of Pulaski Highway in Edgewood. At just after noon, JMVFC engine was responding to the accident with its lights and siren activated when it became involved in a crash with a civilian vehicle and a telephone pole on Hanson Road at Woodbridge Center Way in Edgewood.

The four firefighters inside were trapped inside the fire engine until BGE crews could turn off electricity in the area where the utility pole came down. One civilian was transported to University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health in stable condition. Hanson Road remains closed between Woodbridge Center Way and Lake Avenue.

The Harford County Sheriff’s Office will be investigating the incident.
