Joppa man sentenced to life in prison in connection with deadly Middle River stabbing outside night club

MIDDLE RIVER, MD—A 32-year-old Joppa man will spend the rest of his life in prison following a deadly 2019 stabbing in Middle River.

Joshua David Edwards was sentenced to life imprisonment on Monday.  He had been convicted of first-degree murder and weapons charges on December 9, 2022.

At approximately 12:15 a.m. on December 21, 2019, officers responded to Excape Night Club, located at 10025 Pulaski Highway (21220), for a report of a stabbing. There, police found David Collins lying in a grassy area beside the night club suffering from 42 stab wounds. Collins was transported to Hopkins Bayview and pronounced dead at 2:20 a.m.

Investigators determined that there had been a brief verbal dispute between Collins and Edwards shortly before the stabbing. A witness testified that Edwards lured Collins to the side of the building to fight, and stated “I’m going to air you out.”

Edwards then repeatedly stabbed Collins. While doing so, Edwards also cut off his own finger, which was recovered at the crime scene.

Homicide detectives were able to track down surveillance video from Excape to identify Edwards and corroborate the sequence of events.

State’s Attorney Scott Shellenberger offered his thanks to the police and to Michael Fuller and Emily Alt Lyons for the excellent job they did to pursue the prosecution and conviction of Joshua Edwards. Edwards was sentenced by the Honorable John J. Nagle, III, who ordered the life sentence to run consecutive to a previous sentence imposed on Edwards.
