Pine Grove Middle School evacuated due to suspicious package

UPDATE 6: Police say they have a “person of interest” in custody in connection with this incident.  There is no threat to the community at this time.

UPDATE 5: “You may have heard a loud noise in the area of Pine Grove MS,” the Baltimore County Police Department said in a tweet on Tuesday afternoon. “This was a proactive controlled measure taken by the #BCoPD to address the suspicious package.”

UPDATE 4: Police are also conducting an investigation in the 1600-block of Whitehead Court in Gwynn Oak (21207) that is connected to the Carney incident. The surrounding area has been evacuated and traffic will be impacted.

UPDATE 3: BCPS officials say parents should not report to Pine Grove Middle School or Pine Grove Elementary School for student pickup. Due to a confirmed suspicious package on the property of Pine Grove MS, students and staff were evacuated to Pine Grove ES. There is no emergency at Pine Grove ES and all students and staff are safe.

Out of an abundance of caution, all Pine Grove ES students and staff will be transported to Loch Raven High School. Afternoon Pre-K has been cancelled. Dismissal will take place at Loch Raven HS at 4:00 p.m.

Parent reunification for Pine Grove MS students will take place at Parkville HS. Parents should not report to Pine Grove Middle School or Pine Grove Elementary School at this time.

UPDATE 2: Police say several roads have been closed in the Woodlawn area as a result of the incident at Pine Grove Middle School in Carney.  No additional details are available at this time.

UPDATE: Police say all students are safe and accounted for and that the evacuation was done out of an abundance of caution. Pine Grove Middle School students were evacuated to Pine Grove Elementary School and are being taken to Parkville High School for reunification.

CARNEY, MD—A Carney middle school is being evacuated due to a police investigation.

Authorities evacuated students and staff at Pine Grove Middle School on Old Harford Road at around noon on Tuesday.

Baltimore County Public Schools officials say the school was evacuated due to a suspicious package.

Reunification will take place at Parkville High School.
