Two victims die following Joppa house fire

JOPPA, MD—Two people who were rescued from a house fire in Harford County on Wednesday morning have died.

At just before 8:15 a.m. on May 14, 2025, units from the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding departments responded to a house fire in the unit block of Gunpowder Drive in Joppa (21085).

A chief fire officer and a Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived within minutes, discovered heavy fire, and were told that two people may be inside. They entered via the front door, rescued a male inside, brought him outside to be treated by emergency personnel, and were told that another person was still be inside.

Firefighters later located a second person inside and brought them outside. Both victims were later pronounced dead.

The fire is now being investigated by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.  The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
