Several bomb threats supposedly sent by a Russian terrorist group are circulating among multiple states. These threats began in Texas school districts on Friday, December 8, 2023 via emailed messages. The trend has spread to several states via emails, and SnapChat and Facebook messages/posts. It is currently unknown on which social media platform the threat originated after it was sent via email. The wording has remained the same in the threats.

NOTTINGHAM, MD—Baltimore County Public Schools officials on Tuesday morning sent an alert to all BCPS parents, guardians, staff, and students alerting them to an anonymous threat that has been made against public schools in Maryland.
The BCPS alert reads as follows:
Dear Team BCPS Parents, Guardians, Staff and Students—
We have been informed of anonymous threats that have been sent via email and posted on social media alleging that explosive devices have been placed in all BCPS schools and in all Maryland public schools. We have notified the Baltimore County Police Department (BCoPD) and they are investigating these threats. Our School Resource Officers (SROs) are on alert and will be working closely with school administrators throughout the day. At this time, we have not received threats targeting specific BCPS schools, however, we take all threats seriously and are grateful for the support and partnership of BCoPD as we work to ensure the safety of all Team BCPS staff and students.

The Baltimore County Police Department has released the following statement:
(The Baltimore County Police Department) is investigating the potential threats made alleging explosive devices have been placed in all BCPS schools. Our SRO’s will be working closely with school administrators throughout the day to ensure the safety of all students and staff.
