Protest planned for Tuesday’s meeting of Baltimore County Board of Education

TOWSON, MD—A local parent group is organizing a protest to be held at Tuesday evening’s meeting of the Board of Education of Baltimore County.

The Parental Alliance for Safer Schools in Baltimore County (PASS) is planning a peaceful protest due to the new gender/bathroom/locker room rules adopted by Baltimore County Public Schools.

The LGBTQ+ guidance that was adopted by BCPS this year reads as follows:

“All transgender and gender diverse student-athletes shall be allowed to play on sports teams based on the gender identity and/or gender expression that they consistently assert at school, be called by their preferred name, and be referred to by their preferred pronouns….All BCPS schools shall provide transgender and gender diverse students access to a locker room facility that corresponds with the gender identity and/or gender expression that they consistently assert at school. If there is a reason or desire for increased privacy and safety, any student should be provided access to a reasonable alternative locker room.”

In response, the Parental Alliance for Safer Schools is planning a protest at tonight’s school board meeting.

“We are a nonpartisan group of concerned parents/guardians meeting at the BOE to protest the current Bathroom/locker room policies that are in place in Baltimore County Public Schools allowing boys in the girls bathrooms/locker rooms and vise versa,” reads the official event announcement. “Also we are protesting the boards [sic] policies where boys may compete in girls [sic] sports and vise versa. All these policies are dangerous and can be harmful. These policies are not ‘law’ but only ‘guidance’ which means the board can overturn them! We are meeting in the back parking lot of The Baltimore County Board of Education at 6901 N. Charles St. Towson MD 21204.”
