UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Shalia Hendrix, who was was shot and killed while driving southbound on Rt. 702 in the area of N. Marlyn Avenue in Essex. Police need information on this case. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-LOCKUP.

ESSEX, MD—Police say a shooting in Essex has left one person dead.
At just before 5 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2023, officers responded to the area of Route 702 at Marlyn Avenue (21221).
At the scene, police found an adult victim who had sustained at least one gunshot wound.
Medics transported the adult victim to an area hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased.
Homicide Detectives are asking anyone with information about this shooting to contact 410-307-2020.
