MIDDLE RIVER, MD—A 91-year-old woman has died from injuries sustained during a fire at her Middle River home on February 23, 2023.

Baltimore County Police Department investigators have identified the victim as Mary A. Cardarelli.

Fire investigators ruled that the accidental fire was caused by improperly handled smoking materials.

Fire crews responded to the hundred block of Slipstream Court in Middle River (21220) at around 8:15 p.m. for a report of a dwelling fire. Officers found the victim suffering burn injuries on the front porch and cared for her until EMS arrived.

EMS crews transported her to Johns Hopkins-Bayview Burn Center in critical condition.

On February 25, 2023, the victim succumbed to her injuries.
