Fatal Rosedale shooting was result of attempted robbery during online selling transaction

ROSEDALE, MD—Investigators have determined that a fatal shooting that occurred on the parking lot of the Golden Ring Shopping Center on Sunday evening occurred as the result of an attempted robbery during an online selling transaction.

Kumar Burney arranged to purchase an expensive pair of shoes from the seller on a popular selling app. The two met on the parking lot in the 6400-block of Petrie Way at around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.  During the transaction, Burney attempted to rob the seller, at which point the seller produced a gun and shot Burney once in the upper body, then called 9-1-1 and remained at the scene.

Responding officers located Burney lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound, and recovered a loaded handgun from him before he was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators interviewed and released the seller, who is cooperating with the police investigation.

Once detectives have concluded their investigation, the case will be reviewed by the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office.
