ESSEX, MD—Eastern Technical High School’s annual Women in STEM gathering will be going virtual for 2020.  The event will also be open to all Baltimore County Public Schools high school students – female and male – interested in STEM-related careers.

During the event, students will connect with science, technology, engineering, and math professionals and have opportunities to ask them questions and learn more about potential majors and career options. Students interested in participating need to register online.

The event will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2020.  The link for the event will be posted on the day of the event. Registered students must log into Google Meet using their BCPS accounts.

Special guests for this year’s event include Lindsay Michocki, Ph.D., and Hana Harwood.

Michocki recently completed her doctorate in physical chemistry at the University of Michigan. Her research there involved using ultrafast infrared lasers to create “molecular movies” of molecules in solution, working toward the goal of being able to observe chemical reactions in real time. Her father, Thomas Michocki, is the science department chair at Eastern Tech.

Harwood, a 2019 graduate of Eastern Tech, is a midshipman at the United States Naval Academy where she is studying aerospace engineering. She says she was excited to be accepted as an intern at NASA Goddard and hopes to become an F/A-18 pilot.
