Councilman Marks: Celebrating the renovation of Pine Grove Middle School

The following is an update from the desk of Councilman David Marks.

On May 21, Baltimore County Public Schools will celebrate the renovation and expansion of Pine Grove Middle School. I am very proud of this project, as it not only modernizes an aging middle school, but it helps eliminate overcrowding at the middle school level.

Pine Grove Middle School has served students in Perry Hall, Carney, and Parkville since 1974. It has operated with an open classroom model, and for those who have visited and used this building, it obviously needed many renovations and repairs, like any school of its age.

The $47 million renovation project modernizes this space, but it also adds 158 seats. It is part of a regional school overcrowding strategy that helps eliminate much of our overcrowding.

In 2018, Honeygo Elementary School opened its doors, then Rossville Elementary School in 2022. Nottingham Middle School opened in 2024 as the first new middle school on the Eastside in a half-century. This new classroom space, along with development decisions, has helped eliminate much of our overcrowding in the Perry Hall, Carney, and White Marsh areas.

I would like to acknowledge School Board member Julie Henn, the Olszewski and Klausmeier administrations, our state legislators, and all other stakeholders who supported the funding for this project. One-third of construction money comes from the state government, so partnerships are critically important in completing this work.

There was also a very difficult redistricting process to prepare families for the upcoming school year. The families who send their children to Pine Grove Middle School will, I believe, be pleased with this modernized building. Congratulations to all celebrating!
