Laura Bush Foundation grants $5,000 to Dundalk Middle School

DUNDALK, MD—Dundalk Middle School has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries, the foundation announced on Friday. The school was one of 220 schools across 38 states to receive the grant.

The Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries awarded $1 million in library grants this year. The grants are intended to help libraries update and diversify their collections.

“Books have the power to spark curiosity and inspire lifelong learning,” said former First Lady Laura Bush in a statement. “We are thrilled to provide these grants so that librarians can refresh their shelves — opening the door for students to discover new interests and endless adventures.”

The foundation also revealed Mrs. Bush’s 2025 summer reading list at the annual Laura Bush Book Club event. The list features 16 books for young readers through middle schoolers, including “I Loved You First,” written by Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Pierce Bush. The list includes *First Ladies Make History* by Anita McBride, former Chief of Staff to First Lady Bush, and her daughter Giovanna McBride. Inspired by the Laura Bush Foundation, Anita McBride and daughter Giovanna McBride will donate a copy of *First Ladies Make History* to every elementary school that has received a Laura Bush Foundation grant since 2002.

The Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries has awarded $23 million to over 4,000 schools since its inception in 2002. Library grant applications will open in late 2025. Visit https://www.bushcenter.org/laurabushfoundation for more information.
