Man who entered U.S. illegally charged in Rachel Morin murder case

BEL AIR, MD—A man suspected of killing someone in El Salvador in 2023 has been charged with the rape and murder of Rachel Morin, according to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.

On August 5, 2023, Morin was brutally murdered while walking on the Ma & Pa trail in Bel Air.

The sheriff’s office said 23-year-old Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, a citizen of El Salvador, was taken into custody in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Friday night.  Martinez came to the U.S. illegally in February 2023 and was on an ICE hold.

Shortly after Morin’s death, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office said that the DNA found at the crime scene matched the DNA that had been found at the scene of assault and home invasion in Los Angeles.

In February, a sketch of the suspect was released and the reward for information on this case was raised from $10,000 to $35,000.

Martinez is now awaiting extradition back to Maryland.
