ESSEX, MD—A two-alarm home explosion that occurred in Essex last month has been ruled an arson by Baltimore County fire investigators.

On Monday, May 6, investigators with the Baltimore County Police Department arrested 52-year-old Michael Greensfelder in connection to the home explosion that occurred in the unit block of Crafton Road (21221) at just after 11 p.m. on April 20, 2024.

Investigators say Greensfelder intentionally created a fuel/gas explosion that led to a fire and destruction of the home he shared with his estranged wife and children. The family dog is believed to have been killed during the incident.

Greensfelder faces several charges including arson, malicious-burning, destruction of property, and animal cruelty.
