Maryland serial carjacker sentenced to 10 years in prison

GREENBELT, MD—A Hagerstown man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for a series of armed carjackings and an attempted carjacking between May and June 2022, officials announced.

Carlos Guardado-Eagle, 22, took part in at least four carjackings, three of which left two victims without car keys, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Maryland.

In one incident on May 15, 2022, Guardado-Eagle and his co-conspirator rear-ended a victim in District Heights. When the driver got out of the car to check on the damage, Guardado-Eagle and the co-conspirator got out of their car, pointed guns at the victim, demanded their keys and directed the victim to run across the street. The two then fled, with one driving the BMW and the other using a different vehicle, officials said.

During another carjacking on May 19, 2022, Guardado-Eagle and his co-conspirator robbed a victim at gunpoint in Severn, Maryland. In the next week, they committed another armed carjacking in Silver Spring when a victim was stopped at a traffic light.

On June 1, 2022, the two attempted to carjack a victim in a parking garage in Baltimore. When the victim refused to give up their keys, Guardado-Eagle and his co-conspirator assaulted the victim, according to officials. The victim did not give up their keys and the two fled.

Following his conviction, Guardado-Eagle was sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
