ESSEX, MD—Police are investigating a Sunday morning crash in Essex that left one person dead.

At just before 7 a.m. on March 3, 2024, officers responded to a crash that occurred in the 200-block of Back River Neck Road (21221).

Investigators have determined that a 2016 Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound on Back River Neck Road when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a pole.

The driver, 64-year-old Barry Stokes, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives continue to investigate this case.
