Jennings, Nawrocki, Szeliga, Marks lend support for high-end grocer in Middle River

MIDDLE RIVER, MD—Senator J.B. Jennings, Delegate Kathy Szeliga, and Delegate Ryan Nawrocki have added their support to Councilman David Marks’ call for a high-end grocer in Middle River.

The four legislators who represent Middle River have lent their strong support to the campaign to bring a high-end supermarket to the Greenleigh community.  The online petition asking for Trader Joe’s to come to the area has now surpassed 2,500 signatures.

The developers of Greenleigh—Somerset Construction and St. John Properties and Somerset Construction—are pushing to bring that type of grocery store to the Eastside.

“With the growth on the Eastside, it makes sense to give consumers many options where they can shop,” said Senator Jennings.

“Middle River is very much a grocery store desert, with very few options,” added Delegate Szeliga.

Delegate Nawrocki added that, “we support giving consumers as many choices as possible. Residents along Eastern Avenue have different places where they can shop, but families farther west do not.”

“Our office has been pushing for years for a different type of grocery store on the Eastside,” said Councilman Marks. “A Trader Joe’s or similar supermarket would help diversify options for consumers.”

All four legislators pledged to support incentives that could help attract this type of business to the Eastside.
