LUTHERVILLE, MD—Police are investigating a fatal Baltimore County crash that left one man dead on Christmas Eve.
At around 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 24, 2023, officers responded to a crash that occurred in the area of I-695 and Charles Street in Lutherville. Detectives determined that a 2019 Kia Rio was traveling off of I-695 when it proceeded through the red light at Charles Street and collided with a 2024 Subaru Legacy.
The driver of the Kia, a 26-year-old, was transported to an area hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. The passenger of the Kia Rio, 46-year-old Byakweri Nshimiye, was transported as well, where, later that evening, he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Subaru was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this fatal crash.
