ESSEX, MD—Police are investigating a fatal crash that left one man dead on Saturday evening.

At around 7:30 p.m. on May 20, 2023, officers responded to the area of Route 702 and I-695.

Investigators have determined that the driver of a 2010 Kia Forte was traveling northbound on Route 702 when he collided with a guardrail.

The operator of the Kia, 30-year-old Nicholas Helliwell, was ejected from the vehicle and transported by medics to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

This crash remains under investigation by members of the Baltimore County Police Department Crash Team. Anyone who may have additional information about this crash is asked to contact 410-307-2020.
