Baltimore County man lands winning $100,000 Powerball ticket

REISTERSTOWN, MD—A Maryland Lottery player from Reisterstown and his wife are looking forward to a more secure retirement, thanks to a $100,000 Powerball win that came with the drawing on April 3rd.

“I’ve been playing for years,” the winner said, adding he will continue playing in pursuit of an even bigger prize. “I don’t even need the big one, just a couple million,” he quipped on April 6 while claiming his prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

On the day after the drawing, he said, he scanned his ticket using the Maryland Lottery app on his smartphone and realized he won. Initially, he thought he scored $1 million. Sill, a six-digit win is well worth celebrating, so he called his wife at work and told her the great news.

“She couldn’t believe it when I told her,” he said, adding, “She made a beeline straight home.”

He scanned the ticket again to show his wife, and she got even more excited.  The two were already in the market to buy a new house, so the windfall will make that process a bit easier.

“I’m just looking for my wife and I to retire and live out our lives happily,” he said.

Part of that happiness will include playing the Maryland Lottery for entertainment and the potential for an even bigger prize.

“I’m definitely going to keep playing,” the winner said.

He related that over the years, he has found a few prizes, culminating with a win of $1,005 on a Multi-Match ticket a few weeks ago. He recalls being encouraged to keep playing by one of the employees at One Stop Convenience & Deli at 11700 Reisterstown Road in Reisterstown, the same place where he purchased his winning Powerball ticket.

“The lady said, ‘Don’t give up. Your day is coming!’” he recalled. She was correct!
