State Highway Administration set to begin paving projects on several Baltimore County highways

BALTIMORE, MD—The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin work next week to improve pavement and ride quality on sections of I-83 (Baltimore-Harrisburg Expressway) and US 40 (Pulaski Highway) in Baltimore County.

Similar work is underway on I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) and MD 940 (Owings Mills Boulevard). All the pavement improvement projects should be complete by mid-summer, weather permitting.

The work on I-83 and US 40 starts Monday, April 10, and is expected to be complete by summer, weather permitting. Crews are working the following schedule:

  • Through late July, crews will work on the $3.8 million resurfacing project on I-83 between MD 137 (Mt. Carmel Road) and Middletown Road north of Hereford. Work will occur overnights, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day, Sundays through Thursday, with single lane closures required. Contractor C. J. Miller Inc., of Hampstead, will perform the work.
  • In White Marsh, crews will patch and resurface concrete pavement on US 40 between Ebenezer Road and Days Cove Road. Through late May, crews will work 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and also overnight, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sundays through Thursdays. During work hours, single lane closures will be in effect on both directions of US 40. Contractor Gray and Son Inc., of Timonium, will work on the $1 million project.
  • In Owings Mills, work is underway on a $760,000 project to resurface MD 940 between Red Run Boulevard and MD 140 (Reisterstown Road), near the I-795 (Northwest Expressway) interchange. Through mid-April, crews from Gray and Son Inc., of Timonium, will work with single lane closures in effect weekdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and overnights 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next day, Sundays through Thursdays.
  • East of Towson, work is underway on a $500,000 project to patch asphalt pavement on I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) between Providence Road and MD 41 (Perring Parkway). Through late April, contractor C. J. Miller Inc., of Hampstead, will work overnights with multiple lane closures 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next day, Sundays through Thursdays.
