ROSEDALE, MD—The year 2023 is turning out to be a winning one for one lucky Rosedale man. The scratch-off fan just won his second big scratch-off prize in two months. In January, he took home a $30,000 prize playing the Bonus Crossword game and, this week, he claimed the first $50,000 top prize on the Crazy 8s scratch-off.
The 56-year-old is on a roll. About a week ago, the Baltimore County man was running some errands when he stopped at Mitt’s Rosedale Liquors, located at 6247 Kenwood Avenue, to pick up a few things. After making his purchase, he had $11 in change so he bought a $1 scratch-off and two $5 scratch-offs including the Crazy 8s game. He played the games at home.
Luck apparently was on the big winner’s side, because all of his scratch-offs were winners that day. He won $20 on the $1 game and $5 on the $5 instant ticket. Nothing shocked him more than when he revealed a $50,000 prize on the Crazy 8s game.
“I’m looking at the ticket, like, ‘This can’t be right,’” he said, smiling. “I called my girlfriend in to take a look. I said to her, ‘Tell me I’m not crazy.’ She just looked at me and said, ‘Unbelievable!’”
Being a seasoned winner, the Amazon employee knew exactly what to do to claim the $50,000 prize. He signed the instant ticket, placed it somewhere safe and scheduled his appointment at Maryland Lottery headquarters.
The winner said he is still undecided about his plans for the windfall. He told officials that he and his girlfriend are celebrating 20 years together and she is about to have a special 60th birthday, so a vacation to celebrate might be in order. He’s also is thinking about getting a new car.
