CECIL COUNTY, MD—Motorists traveling to the north on Friday should be advised that I-95 has been shut down at the Maryland line following a police shootout.
The incident reportedly began at around 7:30 a.m. on December 2 when a suspect ran up a highway ramp onto Route 141 and carjacked a vehicle. Delaware State Police located and pursued the suspect onto westbound Route 40.
Officers reportedly exchanged gunfire with the suspect at the I-95 interchange and Route 896. The suspect was fatally shot.
The are no reports of any injuries to officers or civilians. I-95 is expected to be shut down at the Maryland line for an extended period of time.
Motorists should use an alternate route.
