Councilman Marks: Perry Hall Y closing is a loss, but incentives available to fill vacancy

PERRY HALL, MD—Baltimore County Councilman David Marks on Wednesday issued the following statement regarding the announced closing of The Y in Perry Hall:

“This morning, I received word from John Hoey, president and CEO of the Y in Central Maryland, that their board had agreed to close the Perry Hall Y due to declining enrollment. Their membership was modest before the COVID-19 closure, and simply never recovered.

“Many of the staff have been absorbed at other sites. I am certainly very disappointed, but hopeful that this vacancy can be filled with other businesses or organizations.

“Since 2010, we have been able to fill many of the vacancies at the adjacent Perry Hall Square Shopping Center, which has also undergone a facelift. Businesses are allowed to access incentives through the commercial revitalization program. For customers, there are other fitness centers that are available throughout the area, and an outstanding Y at North Plaza.”
