WEEKLY ZIP CODE REPORT: Maryland COVID-19 hospitalizations fall below 900



NOTTINGHAM, MD—The Maryland Department of Health on Friday reported that the statewide COVID-19 positivity rate and total hospitalizations continued to decline over the past week, with hospitalizations falling below 900.

Overall Metrics

As of Friday, March 5, 2021, there have been 385,678 cases of novel coronavirus in Maryland. The state has now conducted 8,024,078 tests, including more than 41,000 tests over the past 24 hours.

The statewide positivity rate stands at 3.28%, down from last Friday’s 3.66%.

A total of 7,748 Marylanders have died with COVID-19 and 856 individuals are currently hospitalized – a decrease of 87 hospitalizations since last Friday.  A total of 229 ICU beds are currently in use, a decrease of 16 beds since last Friday. Maryland’s positivity rate and hospitalizations have continued to fall steadily since late January.

More than 72% of Maryland’s COVID-19 fatalities have been among those over 70 years of age (5,606/7,748).
