TOWSON, MD—The Baltimore County Police Department this week recognized several officers who were awarded the Traffic Safety Specialist award.
The Traffic Safety Specialist (TSS) program is a program designed to recognize law enforcement officers for their experience, education, training and proficiency in highway safety and traffic enforcement. It is a collaborative effort of the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration Highway Safety Office, The Maryland Association of Chiefs of Police and the Maryland Sheriffs Association. The TSS Designation is awarded by the Maryland Highway Safety Office.
To qualify to receive the award, officers have to enroll in the program and submit documentation required for the specific classification (TSS I, TSS II and TSS III ) within the program. Each level requires more experience, training, job performance and skill proficiency as a traffic enforcement officer. TSS III requires a traffic safety project which must be reviewed and approved by the TSS Executive Committee.
