Baltimore County to host webinar on role of non-profits, Congressional efforts, in supporting COVID-19 recovery

TOWSON, MD—Baltimore County will host a webinar to discuss how the nonprofit sector has met the challenge to supplement government resources, helping to ensure that people have access to food, housing support and other critical community services for “The Evolving Role of Non-Profits and the Federal Government in the COVID-19 Response.”

This will be the sixth session in the County-hosted “Baltimore County Business Forum – COVID-19 and Beyond” webinar series.

“Baltimore County is continuing to work around the clock to respond to this crisis, but we know even more needs to be done. We’re thankful that Baltimore County is home to a strong federal delegation and so many dedicated community partners who are stepping up to help meet the need during this trying time,” said County Executive Johnny Olszewski.

United States Senator Ben Cardin will also join to speak on Congressional actions and the impact on Baltimore County residents.

“The community of non-profit organizations provides invaluable services to local residents, and their assistance is essential both in the midst of the pandemic and as we work to emerge from it,” said Senator Cardin. “I have been continually impressed by the creativity of Maryland’s non-profit organizations as they have found ways to collaborate with local governments during the pandemic and ensure that their services keep reaching those who often desperately need them. Many non-profits have even expanded their programmatic offerings and their reach in response to this time of acute need. I applaud their unwavering dedication and will continue working equally hard to make certain that the federal government remains a reliable partner in their work.”

Baltimore County’s Deputy Director of Housing and Community Development Terry Hickey will moderate the 60-minute session, where community leaders will offer a view from the field, detailing what service providers are seeing, how they’re responding and identifying the critical gaps. Panelists will include:

  • United States Senator Ben Cardin
  • Dr. Daraius Irani, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Applied Research at Towson University
  • Mitch Posner, Executive Director, Community Assistance Network, Inc.
  • Momen Abukhdeir, Chief Data and Performance Officer, Baltimore County Government
  • Renae Davis, Supervising Attorney, Maryland Legal Aid Bureau

The webinar will be presented live via Webex on Tuesday, August 25, at 1 p.m., and webinar access information is posted on the County website at baltimorecountybusiness.com.

Recorded video of the completed webinar will be posted there shortly afterward. People are invited to submit questions during the webinar via the live Webex questions feature, or in advance by emailing [email protected].
