A barricade situation in Essex has ended peacefully.

Just before 11 a.m. this morning, officers responded to the 2100 block of Anthony Ave 21221 for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived on the scene they spoke with a man who told them that he had been in an altercation with the suspect. During the altercation, the suspect fired several shots from a gun at him. The man was not hit by the gunfire.

At first, officers feared that the man was armed and walking around the neighborhood. They then determined that he was in a home by himself.

Specialized resources were called to the scene to ensure the safety of the community. Police negotiators began a dialogue with the suspect and requested that he give himself up peacefully. The suspect eventually complied with the request of negotiators and surrendered peacefully to police.

The suspect was transported to a hospital for an evaluation. He also faces charges in connection with the alleged assault. His information will be released after he is officially charged.

The assault incident remains under investigation by the Precinct 11 Investigative Services Team.
