TOWSON, MD—Baltimore County Public Schools has announced a revised Reopening Plan (which can be found online here or at the end of this article), which includes the following updates to the original plan:
- Appendix A: Safety Is Our True North (health and safety guidelines)
- Appendix I: Academic Support Centers
- Appendix J: SAT Offered at BCPS High Schools
- Appendix K: Athletics Fall Re-engagement Plan
- Appendix L: Public Separate Day School Reentry Plan
- Appendix M: Preschool – Grade 2 Reentry Plan
Additionally, the updates may now be found on a new Parent University InfoCenter that provides information for families about choosing hybrid or virtual learning when school buildings re-open.
“Our Reopening Plan answers how we will implement hybrid learning when it is safe to do so, always keeping health and safety at the forefront with guidance from the Baltimore County Health Department,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Darryl L. Williams. “I’d like to thank the many staff and community members who developed these updates, as well as recognizing the helpful feedback submitted by the broader community.”
Appendix M is the detailed plan for returning small groups of students in Preschool through Grade 2 to school buildings for hybrid (at-school and at-home) learning. The date of return will depend on meeting both state and local metrics.
That Preschool through Grade 2 Reentry Plan was presented to the Board of Education of Baltimore County at last night’s meeting and is organized into three parts: Health and Safety, System and School Operations, and Instructional Model.
- The Health and Safety section refers to Safety Is Our True North and addresses health metrics, a variety of mitigation strategies, compliance monitoring, screening, personal protective equipment (PPE), ventilation, health services, safety, and social and emotional learning.
- The System and School Operations section includes the parent questionnaire, which is how families indicate whether students will return for hybrid learning as well as cohort development, drop-off and pick-up, transportation, meals, attendance, and visitors.
- The Instructional Model includes class assignments, how families change cohorts, schedules, the elementary model, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), special education, staffing, class layouts, and assessment.
Due to the evolving nature of the COVID-19 crisis, BCPS officials say updates will be continue to be posted within the Reopening Plan as they become available.
