Loud boom, brief power flicker confounds Carney, Perry Hall residents

Mystery Question MarkUPDATE: BGE has responded here.

Original story below…

What was that loud boom?

That’s what many Carney and Perry Hall residents are asking after hearing the sound on Saturday night and again on Monday night.

It is not likely to be the aforementioned “crop cannon” boom as, this time, each occurrence has been accompanied by a bright flash and a brief power outage.

In a Perry Hall-area Facebook group on Monday night, one individual wrote, “Woah!!! Just heard a huge bang and the power went off for a few seconds!!!”

“It happened two days ago in the middle of the night,” replied another individual. “We had a bright flash as well.”

Monday night’s occurrence occurred just before midnight.  Saturday’s occurrence is believed to have occurred sometime in the overnight hours.

So far, the occurrences have been limited to the areas surrounding Magledt Road and Northwind Road.

NottinghamMD has reached out to both BGE and Councilman David Marks for further clarification.
