Western United recalls tuna poke sold at Costco due to possible Listeria contamination

KENT, Wash.—Western United Fish Company is recalling more than 3,300 pounds of Kirkland Signature brand Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke after a potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced.

The company, doing business as Annasea Foods Group, initiated the recall after its green onion supplier reported a positive test for the bacteria. The affected product, sold in clear plastic clamshell containers, has a “Sell By” date of Sept. 22, 2025.

The poke was sold at Costco deli sections on Sept. 18, 2025, in warehouses across 32 states, including Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.

The company stated that no illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the recall.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. The infection can also lead to serious complications for pregnant women. Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Consumers who purchased the affected product should not consume it. They should dispose of it immediately and return to a local Costco for a full refund.
