ESSEX, MD—Two new businesses, both owned by Essex residents, held grand openings on Eastern Boulevard on Saturday, thanks to a state program aimed at filling vacant spaces.
The Comfy Cup and Baltimore Brazilian Jiu Jitsu held ribbon-cutting ceremonies on September 20, 2025. The projects were made possible through Project Restore 2.0, a Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development initiative.
The Comfy Cup is located at 25 Eastern Blvd. and Baltimore Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is located at 501 Eastern Blvd.
“The Comfy Cup and Baltimore Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, owned and operated by our next generation of Essex business owners and community leaders, are two incredible businesses made possible with support from Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development’s Project Restore 2.0 Grant Program,” the Essex Community Development Corporation said on Saturday. “We’re helping make even more magic happen here in this incredible community located on the waterfront in Eastern Baltimore County!”
