BALTIMORE, MD—The Maryland Lottery has chosen four artists to have their work featured on a new scratch-off ticket, following a statewide contest that drew nearly 2,200 entries.
The “Maryland Treasures” scratch-off ticket, which will showcase the winning artwork, is set to go on sale in March 2026. The Maryland Lottery launched the art contest on July 1, inviting state residents to submit original pieces celebrating Maryland’s history, landmarks, culture, or traditions.
The contest initially aimed to select three winners, but due to the high quality of submissions, the selection panel added a fourth winner.
“This was our first art contest, and the response was overwhelming,” said Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director John Martin. “We had image after image that we loved, which made it impossible to pick just three.”
The four winners, who will each receive a $4,000 award, are:
- Courtney Bindl of Timonium
- Julia Chiplis of Frederick
- Gia Coakley of Mount Airy
- Kevin Richardson of Columbia
The winning pieces of art will be revealed in March, just before the new tickets become available.
“We’re excited for Courtney, Julia, Gia and Kevin, and we’re looking forward to sharing their artwork with the entire state,” Martin said. “All four versions of the Maryland Treasures ticket will have an eye-catching look that will hold a special appeal for Marylanders.”
The contest accepted submissions from more than 700 entrants, with each artist permitted to submit up to five pieces.
