EDGEWOOD, MD—An early morning house fire in the Edgewood area has displaced two adults and several pets.
The blaze broke out at just before 6 a.m. on Thursday, September 11 in the 300-block of Kennard Avenue.
The owner was asleep when she awoke to a smoke alarm and discovered a fire in her kitchen, according to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal. She, her dog, and her cats were able to escape and dial 9-1-1.
Officials credit the smoke alarm with saving her and her pets’ lives. Firefighters were able to contain the bulk of the fire to the kitchen; however, the home sustained extensive heat, smoke, soot, and water damage.
It took 35 firefighters approximately twenty minutes to control the fire, which was caused by the failure of a food dehydrator.
Two adults have been displaced and are being assisted by Harford County Disaster Assistance.
