Old Bay seasoning tops list of Maryland’s most loved brands

BALTIMORE, MD—A new survey from financial media company MarketBeat.com found that Old Bay Seasoning is Maryland’s most-loved homegrown brand, beating out other iconic local products.

The survey of 3,015 Maryland residents asked them to name the products that inspired the most state pride. Old Bay, the iconic spice blend created in Baltimore in 1939, took the top spot. Known for its use on seafood, Marylanders commonly use the seasoning on a variety of foods, from popcorn to French fries.

Baltimore-based spice giant McCormick Spices ranked second on the list, a nod to the company’s global reach with local roots.

The survey’s third-place spot went to Berger Cookies, a Baltimore bakery staple known for its thick layer of fudge icing on a soft, cakey cookie.

Rounding out the list at number four was Smyth Jewelers, a family-owned business in Timonium with a century-long history of serving the region. The survey referred to the jeweler as “Where Maryland gets engaged.”

The full list of results from the survey is as follows:

#1 Old Bay Seasoning (Baltimore)

#2 McCormick Spices (Hunt Valley)

#3 Berger Cookies (Baltimore)

#4 Smyth Jewelers (Timonium)
