BALTIMORE, MD—The Powerball jackpot for Wednesday night’s drawing has swelled to an estimated $1.4 billion, with a one-time cash option of $634.3 million. If a single ticket hits the winning numbers, it would be the fourth-largest jackpot in the game’s history and the sixth-largest in U.S. lottery history.
The jackpot has been growing since May 31, when a ticket in California won a $204.5 million prize. Tonight’s drawing marks the 41st consecutive drawing without a jackpot winner. The longest jackpot run on record for the game is 42 drawings, which ended on April 6, 2024, with a $1.326 billion win in Oregon.
Powerball tickets cost $2 and are sold in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
The cutoff time for purchasing tickets for tonight’s drawing is 9:59 p.m. in Maryland, with the drawing held at 10:59 p.m.
Maryland players have won more than $10.1 million in prizes during the current jackpot run. This includes 27 tickets worth $50,000 or more. Among the biggest Maryland winners were two tickets that each won $1 million, sold in Baltimore and Catonsville. Three tickets won $500,000, two of which were purchased by the same person in Landover and Riverdale. The third was sold in Middle River.
During the current jackpot roll, more than $41.1 million in Powerball tickets have been sold in Maryland. These sales have contributed an estimated $10.2 million to state programs and services. The lottery’s more than 4,300 retailers across the state have earned over $2.3 million in commissions.
