Powerball jackpot soars to $1.3 billion, drawing near historic high

BALTIMORE, MD—The Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $1.3 billion for Wednesday’s drawing after no ticket matched all six numbers in the latest round, lottery officials announced Tuesday.

The new jackpot, with an estimated cash value of $589 million, ranks as the fifth-largest in Powerball history and the ninth-largest among U.S. lottery jackpot games. The prize pool has been growing since May 31, 2025, with the next drawing marking the 41st consecutive one without a winner. The current record for the longest jackpot run is 42 drawings.

The winning numbers from Monday night’s drawing were 8, 23, 25, 40, 53, and the red Powerball was 5. The Power Play multiplier was 3.

Although no one claimed the grand prize, 12 tickets across the country won prizes of $1 million or more. Two tickets, sold in Montana and North Carolina, included the Power Play option to double their winnings to $2 million. Ten other tickets, sold in California, Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey (2), New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, each won a $1 million prize.

Players are encouraged to check their tickets carefully, as prizes are awarded for matching the red Powerball or a portion of the winning numbers.

A single winner of Wednesday’s jackpot can choose between a lump-sum payment of $589 million or an annuitized prize paid out over 30 years, starting with one immediate payment and followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year. Both options are before taxes.

Powerball tickets are $2 per play and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are held live every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET.
