I-95 ramps near Bel Air to close for Express Toll Lane weekend construction

BEL AIR, MD—The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) is advising motorists of ramp closures and traffic shifts near the Interstate 95 and Maryland Route 24 interchange this weekend as part of the I-95 Express Toll Lanes (ETL) Northbound Extension project.

The closures, beginning Friday, Sept. 5, and lasting through Monday, Sept. 8, are necessary for crews to realign northbound MD 24 onto a new bridge and open new ramps to MD 924. Drivers should expect major traffic impacts and plan for extra travel time or seek alternate routes.

The following ramps will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, until 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8:

  • The on-ramp from northbound MD 24 to southbound I-95. Traffic will be detoured to MD 924, then onto southbound MD 24 to access southbound I-95.
  • The off-ramp from northbound I-95 to MD 924 (Exit 77B). Drivers will be detoured to Exit 77A (MD 24) and turn left.

Additionally, the off-ramp from southbound I-95 to MD 924 (Exit 77B) will be closed from 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, until 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8. The detour will direct traffic to Exit 74 (MD 152), then onto northbound I-95 to reach Exit 77A.

The MDTA is reconfiguring the MD 24 interchange to accommodate the I-95 ETL extension. The project involves removing, relocating, and adding ramps to change how drivers access I-95, MD 24, and MD 924.
