Winning $500,000 Powerball ticket sold in Middle River as jackpot keeps rolling

BALTIMORE, MD—A Powerball Double Play ticket sold in Middle River is worth $500,000 after matching five numbers in Monday night’s drawing, the Maryland Lottery announced Tuesday.

The ticket was purchased at Bernie’s Liquors, located at 1414 Martin Blvd. The lucky ticket holder will receive a half-million-dollar prize, missing out on the $10 million top prize by not matching the red Powerball number.

The $500,000 winner is the third such prize claimed in Maryland in the last week, following two other winning Double Play tickets sold in Prince George’s County for the Aug. 20 drawing. The tickets were purchased at Landover Hills Exxon in Landover and A-1 Laundromat in Riverdale.

The Powerball jackpot, meanwhile, continues to grow after no one hit the winning numbers in Monday’s drawing. The estimated annuity value for Wednesday’s drawing is now $815 million, with a cash option of $367.9 million.

The jackpot was last won on May 31, at a value of $204.5 million. Since then, the Maryland Lottery has generated more than $28.6 million in Powerball ticket sales and paid out more than $7.8 million in prizes.

The winning tickets from Monday and last week have 182 days to be claimed at the Maryland Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore.

Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Double Play option, which costs an additional $1, allows players to enter their numbers into a second drawing with prizes up to $10 million.
