BALTIMORE, MD—A Baltimore County man, using the alias “Tank,” won a $1 million prize on the Maryland Lottery’s All About Cash scratch-off ticket, the lottery announced Monday.
The man, an eastern Baltimore County resident, said he bought the $20 ticket at Hob’s Carroll Motor Fuels at 7115 North Point Road in Sparrows Point on Aug. 22 with some extra cash he had after buying ice. He jokingly asked the clerk to “pick me a winner.”
“At first, I thought I won $100. Then I thought it was for $1,000. It kept going and going,” the man said in a statement released by the lottery.
“Tank” said he scratched off the ticket at home using a lucky pocket knife that he had also used to scratch a $10,000 winning ticket a few years ago.
He said he plans to use the winnings for his retirement.
