Tidal flooding possible in Baltimore area as Hurricane Erin pulls away from East Coast

BALTIMORE, MD—The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for portions of the Baltimore area and Flood Warnings are in effect for the Eastern Shore as Hurricane Erin pulls away from the U.S.

Forecasters say moderate to minor tidal flooding will continue across the Chesapeake Bay and tidal Potomac through the weekend.

The highest confidence for moderate flooding is in the Annapolis area with minor flooding at other sensitive tidal sites, especially on Friday evening and again Saturday morning.

In southern Baltimore, two to two and half feet of inundation are expected above ground level in low lying areas due to tidal flooding through 6 a.m. on Monday morning.

If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
