BALTIMORE, MD—The nation’s average price of gasoline has held steady over the past week, hovering at $3.08 per gallon, according to a GasBuddy report released Monday. The price remains in the same range it has occupied for much of 2025 as oil prices continue to be anchored in the $60s.
The national average is down 4.6 cents from a month ago and is 27.9 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel decreased 1.9 cents in the last week to $3.671 per gallon.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said the stability is largely due to oil prices remaining anchored in the $60s. “For the majority of motorists in non-cycling states, gas prices will likely remain near current levels as we head toward Labor Day,” De Haan said.
However, De Haan noted that some markets, such as Ohio and Florida, experienced price cycling and saw higher prices last week, while Michigan posted the largest drop.
Oil prices are facing downward pressure amid hopes of a potential peace deal between Russia and Ukraine and growing sentiment of an oil supply surplus forming later this year. WTI crude oil was trading at $62.90 per barrel Monday, down from $64.21 a week ago. Brent crude oil was at $65.92 per barrel, down from $66.93 last week.
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), U.S. oil inventories rose by 3.0 million barrels in the week ending August 8, and are about 6% below the seasonal average. Gasoline inventories fell by 0.9 million barrels and are at the five-year seasonal average.
The most common price for gasoline in the U.S. remains $2.99 per gallon.
The states with the lowest average prices are Oklahoma ($2.60), Mississippi ($2.66), and Louisiana ($2.70). The states with the highest average prices are California ($4.45), Hawaii ($4.43), and Washington ($4.33).
