BALTIMORE, MD—Three Maryland lottery players are celebrating significant wins this week, with prizes ranging from $40,000 to $1 million, according to the lottery officials.
A Baltimore woman, an avid fan of MONOPOLY™ games, was overcome with emotion after scratching off a $1 million prize on a $20 MONOPOLY™ X100 ticket. The winner, who claimed her prize on Aug. 12 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, purchased the ticket in June at York Road Plaza Wine and Spirits. While relaxing at home, she scratched the ticket and was stunned to see a $1 million win. “I took off my glasses and thought, ‘This can’t be right,’” she said. After confirming the win with her daughter, who rushed from work to verify the ticket, the woman plans to retire, make home improvements, share some of the prize with family, and invest the rest. Two $1 million top prizes remain in the MONOPOLY™ X100 game.
In Dundalk, a woman who rarely plays the lottery won $50,000 on a Powerball ticket after a spontaneous purchase sparked by a jackpot sign exceeding $500 million. The industrial worker bought the ticket on Aug. 8 at the Wawa store at 4901 Boston Street in Baltimore for the Aug. 9 drawing. She discovered her third-tier prize days later when a retailer’s scanner prompted her to see the cashier, revealing the $50,000 win. “It was impossible to believe. Just impossible,” she said on Aug. 12 at Lottery headquarters. She plans to share the winnings with family, support charities, and upgrade a planned trip. The Powerball jackpot, which prompted her purchase, has climbed to $526 million for the Aug. 13 drawing.
Meanwhile, a Rosedale player is $40,000 richer after a Mega Millions ticket matched four of the first five numbers plus the Mega Ball in the Aug. 12 drawing. Purchased at the Royal Farms store at 8803 Philadelphia Road, the $5 ticket’s X4 multiplier boosted the $10,000 base prize to $40,000. This marks Maryland’s 18th Mega Millions third-tier win in 2025, with all prior prizes claimed. The Mega Millions jackpot, which rolled over after no one matched all numbers, is now estimated at $198 million for the Aug. 15 drawing, with a cash option of $89.3 million.
The recent wins highlight the excitement surrounding Maryland’s lottery games, with players across the Baltimore area reaping significant rewards.
