BGE awards $250,000 to 29 local nonprofits for community safety programs

BALTIMORE, MD—Baltimore Gas and Electric has announced that the company is awarding over $250,000 in grants to 29 local nonprofit organizations to support community safety and resiliency programs.

The BGE Community Safety Grants will fund projects ranging from fire safety equipment and youth engagement to mental health support and neighborhood revitalization. The program is an evolution of BGE’s previous emergency response grants, which have collectively provided more than $3.5 million to 623 programs over the past 12 years.

“These grant recipients are already invested in their communities, providing safe places and revitalizing community spaces,” said Tamla Olivier, president and CEO of BGE. “With some additional funding, they can increase the capacity of their projects and programs to share their safety knowledge and skills.”

Recipients of this year’s grants are located throughout BGE’s service area in four Maryland counties and Baltimore City. The funds will support a variety of projects, including the purchase of an all-terrain vehicle for the Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company, in-person mental health support for veterans at The Baltimore Station, and a low-income home fire safety program for Rebuilding Together Baltimore.

BGE officials said the grants are funded by shareholder dollars and are not reflected in customer bills. The utility noted its commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the communities it serves through strategic investments.
