Summer Second Friday event to be held in Essex on August 8

ESSEX, MD—The Essex Community Development Corporation is hosting its second “Summer Second Friday” event tonight, transforming the area in front of its office into a community celebration with music, art, food and local vendors.

The “Chalk and Chill” event, which runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 25 Eastern Blvd., promises a night of activities for all ages.

Live music will be provided by DJ Rome throughout the evening. Attendees can also catch high-energy dance performances and lessons from TSU Crew, featuring Ryan Daly, also known as Ayo Shag from Kenwood High School. The dance sessions are scheduled for 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The event will feature a “Chalk Art Zone” where participants can create their own sidewalk masterpieces. Other activities include lawn games, community crafts and hands-on demonstrations.

A pop-up street market will showcase local artisans and businesses, including Felt Up Girl, Pops Sportscards, and PhunkyFly Permanent Jewelry.

A variety of food options will be available from local vendors and food trucks, including Fat Boys Street Eats, The Essex Diner, Ramos Latin Restaurant, Icy Delights Food Truck, Steamin’ Demons and Superior Oyster Shuckers. A beer and crush garden will be set up, with signature drinks by Connie Spencer of Cheers 2 Memories.

Community groups and organizations such as the Heritage Society of Essex-Middle River, the Glenn L. Martin MD Aviation Museum, and the Baltimore County Public Library will also be in attendance.

Parking is available at the Essex Park and Ride and along Virginia Avenue.
