Maryland DNR launches new ‘MD Outdoors’ app for outdoor enthusiasts, hunters, and anglers

ANNAPOLIS, MD—The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has introduced a new, free mobile app, “MD Outdoors,” as the official resource for the state’s outdoor enthusiasts, hunters, and anglers. The new app replaces the unsupported “AccessDNR” app, which users must now remove and replace with the new version.

The MD Outdoors app integrates with the department’s new licensing system, which went online in June. Users can now purchase hunting and fishing licenses, stamps, and permits, as well as renew registrations for boats and off-road vehicles. The app also allows users to digitally display their licenses and registrations for quick access.

The new app retains many popular features from its predecessor and adds new functionality. Key features include:

  • Maps and directions to state parks, trails, boat launches, and wildlife areas.
  • Information on hunting seasons, regulations, and guides.
  • An option for hunters to report their harvest directly to the DNR.
  • A location-based display for sunrise and sunset times.
  • Maryland fish and shellfish identification.
  • Tide tables and state fish record information.

The department’s mobile app has been downloaded by more than 253,000 users since the new system’s introduction. The new licensing system, developed in conjunction with the app, offers an easier-to-navigate interface and auto-renewal options.

Hunters who used the “Trophy Case” feature on the former AccessDNR app are advised to save their photos, as the images will not be transferred to the new platform and will not be retrievable once the old app closes.

The new MD Outdoors app can be downloaded via the DNR website.
