Heat Advisory, Code Orange issued for Wednesday in central Maryland as heat index to hit 109

BALTIMORE, MD—The National Weather Advisory has issued a Heat Advisory for Wednesday in central Maryland.  The Maryland Department of the Environment has also issued a Code Orange Air Quality Alert.

The Heat Advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on July 30th. Heat index values of 105 to 109 degrees are expected.

Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat related illnesses.

Residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.  Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

The Maryland Department of the Environment has also issued a Code Orange Air Quality Alert for Wednesday.

A Code Orange Air Quality Alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.
