UPDATE: According to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, the homeowner was using a newly purchased novelty-style lighter when it exploded, catching a synthetic couch and other ordinary combustibles on fire. The owner was not injured from the explosion.

JOPPA, MD—Crews responded to a house fire in the Joppa area on Monday evening.
At just before 6:30 p.m. on July 28, units from Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding agencies were dispatched to the 200-block of Staysail Drive.
Residential fire sprinklers were able to keep the fire in check until firefighters were able to arrive and extinguish the remaining flames, containing the blaze to the living room.
Extensive smoke and water damage has dispaced three adults and one child. They are being assisted by Harford County Disaster Assistance.
The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
