Health alert issued for salad products containing breadcrumbs that have been recalled due to possible Listeria risk

WASHINGTON—The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for ready-to-eat ham salad products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The ham salad contains breadcrumbs recalled by Newly Weds Foods due to potential contamination.

The alert applies to (view labels):

  • 12-ounce printed plastic tubs of “RESER’S FINE FOODS Ham Salad” with a “sell by” date of Sept. 1, 2025.
  • 5-pound clear plastic tubs of “Molly’s Kitchen Ham Salad” with a “sell by” date of Aug. 31, 2025.

The issue was discovered when Reser’s Fine Foods, Inc. determined it had used the affected FDA-regulated breadcrumb products.

As of Saturday, there have been no confirmed reports of illness linked to the consumption of these ham salad products.

FSIS is urging consumers not to eat these products and retailers not to sell or serve them. The affected ham salad should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that can be particularly dangerous for older adults, individuals with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Symptoms often include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions, sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal issues.

Pregnant women can experience miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infections in newborns. In higher-risk individuals, serious and potentially fatal infections can occur. Anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms within two months of consuming these products should seek medical attention and inform their healthcare provider about the consumption.
