WASHINGTON, DC—Kayem Foods Inc., a Chelsea, Massachusetts, establishment, is recalling approximately 24,173 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken sausage products due to potential contamination with foreign material, specifically pieces of plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Thursday.
The recall affects fully cooked chicken sausage produced on June 28, 2025. The specific product is 11-ounce vacuum-packed packages of “ALL NATURAL al fresco CHICKEN SAUSAGE SWEET APPLE with Vermont made syrup,” bearing lot code “179” and a “USE/FRZ BY” date of “OCT 01 2025” printed on the back label. Products subject to the recall can be identified by establishment number “P-7839” inside the USDA mark of inspection (view labels). These items were distributed to retail locations nationwide.
The issue was discovered after Kayem Foods Inc. received three consumer complaints reporting white pieces of plastic in the chicken sausage products.
As of the announcement, there have been no confirmed reports of injuries resulting from the consumption of these products. FSIS advises anyone concerned about an injury to contact a healthcare provider.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled chicken sausage are urged not to consume it. The products should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
FSIS is conducting effectiveness checks to ensure that the recalling firm notifies its customers and that the product is no longer available to consumers. Retail distribution lists will be posted on the FSIS website at https://www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls when available.
